The Vessel: Trade Winds | A Carbon-Neutral Odyssey
Trade Winds is more than just a Farrier 27 trimaran; she is a testament to how we can sail the Scottish seas without leaving a footprint or trace.
Harnessing the Elements
For twelve years, Trade Winds has been 100% carbon neutral for all electrical, domestic, and navigation systems. By relying solely on solar arrays and wind turbines, she hasn’t burned a drop of fossil fuel or touched shore power for over a decade. Combined with wind, wave, and tidal propulsion, she remains one of the cleanest yachts exploring the Hebrides today.
A Name with Spirit
Her name isn’t “standard” for a pocket rocket trimaran. In 2014, following a sponsorship by the Cairngorms Brewery, she was renamed after their best-selling ale. Since many a chilled Trade Winds beer is still enjoyed on deck after a long day of island hopping, there has never been a compelling reason to change it.
A Proven Highland Voyager
Her logbook tells a story of endurance across the UK and Ireland:
-
2011 & 2012: Back-to-back All Rounder’s Class Winner in the Scottish Islands Peaks Race (SIPR).
-
2014: A 2,400-mile solo circumnavigation of the UK and Ireland.
-
2016: A 500-mile non-stop voyage around the Scottish coast.
